The Excellent Wife: Martha Peace

I'm going through this book right now with some friends of mine from Church. Even though I haven't finished it, I'm going to blog about it now because it's that good! I have heard Martha Peace at the Women Discipling Women Conference and each time she speaks (or writes) God has used her in some way in my life. I recommend this book to any woman- wife or not. I, myself, am not married, with no future prospects as far as I know, and I am finding many applicable things.

The title really should be "The Excellent (fill in the blank)".

A wife's responsibility is to learn to put her confidence in the faithfulness of God and His Word- to do what He says. She can become what He wants her to become if she does what He wants her to do. There is no other way! But, there is one major problem to deal with first... the problem of sin.
Sine is the only think that will keep a woman from becoming a godly wife. Sin is lawlessness, a transgression from any of God's standards (I John 3:4). It is failing to trust in and do what God's Word says. Sin is wanting to do things her own way rather than God's way. It is presuming God will help her even when she is neglecting His truth (ouch. that one hit me hard). Sin is thinking we can get by without God's help. The bad news is that there are a number od ways to sin. The good news is that God Himself has provided a remedy for sin.
